Tequila's Shiloh Journey Has Ended...

Sad news from Shiloh today as sweet old Tequila has passed away. He was down early morning in the Gummies and we carried him into a barn stall on a blanket. He was laid on warm straw and covered with warm blankets. His old body was just failing and his time had come. We gave him a strong sedative to keep him quiet and to help him pass in peace. I spent the morning sitting and talking with him and he laid quietly for a few hours and then faded away in peace and quiet.

Tequila was in his upper 30's and had a great life with us over the past five years. He wandered freely all over Shiloh and spent his twilight days in the quiet Gummie pen where he could eat all he wanted and where he was protected and watched closely. He wore a warm blanket and we kept him as comfortable as we possibly could. But, his age was showing and he was slowing down.

As we say good bye to this special Burro, we can be happy that he lived a full life and was cared for and loved right up to the end. Tequila will be buried near Chief at Shiloh.

Enjoy these photos of Tequila over the past year...
Once he laid down, he would sometimes need a boost to get all the way back up.

He did very well this past summer, he was fat and feeling good.
He would oftentimes hang out with the other Burros and eat with them by the feed room.

Here he is trying to get into the feed room "off limits area"!

One of my favorite photos of him, taken a few months ago. He loved to hang out by the new office and would often lie down there and take a nice long nap in the sun.

Here he is last month in the Gummie Pen. He hated to get his blanket on and would buck and kick when you tried to hook the straps!

I will miss you dear Tequila. You were our first burro. I loved how "stubborn" you were. If you didn't want to do something, we could not make you do it! RIP
