A Very Busy Friday...

We spent the day getting ready for tomorrow's clinic. It's really going to be a fun day, many former Shiloh Horses will be in the clinic with their adopters. Eric and Sharil worked hard on the Cherry Pie area- it looks great and lets hope the wind stays away!

Of course, we still had all the usual things to do today...

Pippi Longstocking spent quite a bit of time inside of her foaling stall today. She looks very close to foaling and we are watching her carefully. Vertigo doesn't look like she will be far behind...

Donkey Otie greets us each morning. Here he waits to get into the Breakfast Club...

And the Breakfast Club is on! That's Bacon Bits, Fiesta, Inca, Donkey Otie and Jimmy Dean...

Well, there was a small spitting contest between Aztec and Inca over the feed pan. Interestingly, they actually stayed pretty close to each other today. We are hoping that they will team up...

Pregnant Breeze in her barn stall...
Sanctuary Horse, Derby, in Assisted Living...
The Brat Pack, lined up for breakfast.

Our Farrier, Osbaldo, trimmed Rugrat by the Feed Room. Osbaldo works at Shiloh 4-5 days per week. After all, it's a full time job to keep all the horses up to date on their feet.

A nice shot of the Mare Motel eating their breakfast. From left to right: Jack, Banjo, Lobo, Hutch and Starsky.

The other side. Left to right: Ember, Toluca, Tioga and Image.

Over in the Annex Pen, Sanctuary Horses, Navajo and White Cloud, enjoy their senior feed. They like to share the same feed tub. Navajo is about 36 years old...
White Cloud is looking great...

In the VC pen, the Blind Girls shared a feed tub as well. They do everything together! Left to right: Idaho, GG, Keller.

All three trying to squeeze into one feed tub. There are other ones, but they like to be together...

Taco and Ethel the Mule enjoy a mutual scratch...

BB took a sun nap...

Ironically, Starsky and Hutch are becoming friends. I actually didn't even think about their names, I just put them together in the Mare Motel on accident!

A meeting in the Turn out. Left to right: Cognac, Stitch, Hutch and Starsky...
The Wandering Odd Couple, Scrappy and Baja.

Isn't Winter Supposed to be Over?

It was FREEZING out at Shiloh today! We were all back to wearing our winter coats. What happened to the tank top weather we enjoyed a few days ago?
Spur perched on her lookout spot. She sits up on the hay every morning watching for cars driving up to the rescue. From this spot she can see for miles across the valley...
Even though we were feeling Winter's blast- the Mesquites know it's really spring and are beginning to bloom...

We put blankets back onto the Gummies. The wind was icy and it supposed to get into the mid 40's tonight at Shiloh... (Left to right- that's The Sherriff (one of our Mules), Ferdinand the goat, Charity and Peso.)

Elsa worked with Napa. I am currently working on Napa's adoption video...

We moved Cary Granite out into Easy Street today. He seemed very happy with the change in scenery and settled right down to eat...

More fun with Chia Pet...

A Windswept Weds...

We had that high desert wind today, at times it was so strong that it was like you were being sandblasted!
The Okay Corral horses braving the wind... (That is Stretch in front.)

The Big Pasture, before the winds really began.

Inspirada in Okay Corral.

Latte, looking cute and still looking for her new home. I sticked her today and she is already almost 16.2 hands tall at just shy of three years old...

Sanctuary Horse, Trace, in Big Pasture. Trace is a Wobbler.

Wasabi pauses for a photo between bites of hay...

The Big Pasture, that is Clovis up front.

Lark.

We went ahead and moved the newest arrivals out of Isolation and into the Mare Motel. Here Jack greets Banjo.

Cognac visited with her Hospice friends from the attached turn out.

Ember was interested in her new surroundings...

So was Starsky...

Here he meets new friend, Hutch.

Lobo also visited with Banjo...

Over in the Brat Pack in the Bungalows, Fame is looking good. She is such a sweet little filly...

Hammie Davis Jr has left the Pig Palace and was out wandering today. Here he roots around by BB's pen...
Sally worked on Image, he suffers from Cushings and barely sheds out his thick coat.

He has also been acting a bit quiet the last few days and we think he might have some sand in his belly. So here he is eating psylium and mineral oil in a nice yummy bran mash. He ate it all up, we will keep him on psylium for a while to help flush him out. Being in the desert, we do deal with sand and have to keep a close eye on the horses for signs of sand in the intestines. Sand is an issue that all horse people in the Western states have to deal with...

Cocktail and Calamity spent the morning in the turn out...

We moved Shawnie out of the Mare motel and moved her into the Okay Corral, which she seems to enjoy. Before she went out, she was groomed.

Then the dust storms started. Sometimes we need goggles out there!

A Windy Tuesday...

A nice and quiet day today. The wind kicked up later in the day, but the morning was beautiful.

Peanut looking deceptively cute on her way to the ranch this morning...

Nevada and BB...

I shedded out Eagle this morning and got off tons of hair. His deformed hoof was bothering him a bit today so I treated him with some extra Bute and spent some time with him.

See his deformed hoof? This rotation was caused by an injury long before he came to Shiloh. We keep it rounded off for easier breakover and he wears a "Soft Ride" boot for comfort. We also give him Bute on a regular basis and he is enjoying his life at the rescue...

Aztec pigging out by the feedroom...

We have some young new arrivals! These little chicks were hatched in our Chicken Pen- the hen must have hid these eggs in one of the chicken boxes and sat on them. When I went in to feed the chickens this morning, out they streamed! They are so cute...

Over in Isolation, Banjo is looking good. His Isolation period will be over at the end of the month, so just a few more days...

Over in Easy Street, Sanctuary horse, Marilyn, got a drink.

I worked on Tioga's lesion, it's actually looking pretty good.

This was a big hole held together with stitches, now it's granulated and filled in. It's actually less painful for him than his cancerous lesion was and should heal right up.

Over in the Labor and Delivery area of our Bungalows, Vortex is getting huge. Her baby is moving around and if you watch closely, you can see it moving. We have separated Vertigo and Pippi for their upcoming births. Both mares have a large outdoor pen with a private heavily bedded stall for foaling.

Here is Vortex's foaling area, it's all ready for her. Most of the Shiloh babies have been born in these areas of the Bungalows. These stalls are nice and protected and private for the mare and foal. We keep it heavily bedded with straw for their comfort.

This is Pippi's stall.

Looks comfy! Now come on Pippi! She is getting very close to foaling and we think it will be within the week...
