Brrr...

It's freezing out there! Into the low 20's, if not less, at night and in the low 40's during the day...

First off, congratulations to Kirkorian who was happily adopted yesterday! He will remain boarded at Shiloh Ranch...

Sky, dozing in his medical area. We ended up sending him into the vet clinic for a check as he is not feeling well. He was oiled and water and put onto antibiotics. We are hoping he will recover but only time will tell...

New guy, Tommy With an Eye. He is settling in nicely...

I had to rescue Sally from the Dog Office- she couldn't get the door open. Of course, I had to get a photo first before I let her out!

Snow in the pass on the way to the ranch...

Our winter fashions- both Sally and I have joined the Carhart Nation! It's the only way to stay warm!

Breezer wouldn't even get off of the golf cart- he was so cold!

Clouds over Shiloh. Another "good day to be a cloud"...

Many of the horses were down taking sun naps today. They soaked up all the warmth they could...

Saturday...

A cold morning that warmed up for a while but got cold again!

First off, sad news as Flicker had to be euthanised in the vet clinic this morning. She had two seizures (which she has never had before) within ten minutes of each other at the morning feeding time and we had her taken into the clinic. She has been acting strange for a few weeks, not colicy, just not right. But over the past few days she cheered up some and seemed to be back on track. When she arrived at the clinic she was close to seizing again and was in major shock. We had to make the sad decision to have her put down. The vet is waiting on results to see what was going on with her. A sad part of rescue...

But, the circle of life continues, this is "Tommy With an Eye", a thin gelding who arrived from Animal Control this afternoon. He was confiscated with an emaciated mare with a young foal from a cock fighting property. Thank you to Debbie who brought him out to Shiloh and who took in the mare and foal. As you must have guessed by his new name- Tommy only has one eye. More info to come tomorrow...

It was so cold last night that these are actually icicles on Sky's whiskers!

Sally cleaned him up and took him for a walk. Sky seemed a bit better today...

He looks a lot more chipper and is now wearing two warm blankets. Thank you to Cheri who donated some blankets this morning, they are already in use...

I had to chase Charlie out of the Saloon this morning, he was looking for some Equine Senior and thought he would blend in with the big horses. Good try Charlie!

The Hospice's "skating rink"...

Sabine and Willie Nelson...

Felipe found this one eyed pigeon- he is now living in the chicken coop...

Sharil, Borrego, Cochise and friends under City Center...

Cold skies over Shiloh...

We started the morning off with multiple broken water pipes due to the intense cold. They just snapped right off. We now turn the water off at night to hopefully keep this from happening. Here Felipe and Ed fix a pipe...

And here is another one that showed itself when the water was turned back on!

Oblivious to all the action, Sonny and Cher dozed in the Pig Palace...

While Daisy and Aztec fought over some hay. Aztec laid on it so Daisy couldn't get it. Just like little kids...

We are keeping a close eye on old Sky. He has begun to lose weight over the past few weeks and his appetite is not very strong. He was very thin when he arrived a few months ago but did gain it back for a while. He is in the Medical Unit where he can be monitored. We are keeping him comfortable with a warm blanket, good shelter and straw bedding...

Thankfulness...

The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but the thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessing."

-Henry Ward Beecher

As everyone knows these past few months have been some of the most difficult of my life. My life has been completely changed by Tony's passing, my heart is broken, but, still, I have so very, very much to be thankful for.

I am thankful for Tony, that I was married to an incredibly kind, generous and gentle man. My best friend, my mentor, my love of my life. I am so thankful for the sixteen wonderful years that we spent together. I am thankful that Tony was able to come home, be with me, and then pass on so peacefully here in our home. I am thankful for the way he changed the course of my life forever and helped me find my purpose.

I am thankful for my family. I am thankful that my mom is my closest friend and my partner in the rescue. I get to spend every day with her. I am thankful that my dad and his wife, Julie, are happy. I am thankful that I have two of the best nieces in the whole world and that my brother Tom and his wife, Kelly, are awesome parents. I am thankful to have my new sister in law, Stephanie, as part of my family and thankful that she fell in love with my gentle and loving brother, Clint. I am thankful that my sister, Sarah, is such a an incredible person and someone whom I admire very much. I am thankful she has met Joe, a really great guy who loves her.

I am thankful for all my friends.

I am thankful that I can travel the world. It always makes me thankful that I live in the free United States and I am thankful for all our people in the service who keep us free.

I am thankful for my many dogs and cats, who share my empty house with me and ease my loneliness.

I am thankful for all of the animals at Shiloh.

I am thankful for Donkey Otie who he haws and tries to bite me every single morning when I arrive at Shiloh.

I am thankful for Ochocinco who carried little unborn Cairo to the rescue where he could be born in comfort and have a future.

I am thankful for all of the Gummies, who are able to live out their days in companionship with full bellies and warm blankets.

I am thankful for all of our supporters, donors, volunteers and adopters. I am thankful for my Shiloh Family.

I am thankful for my horse, Jedermann, who came into my life at just the right time to help me in my grief and give me another purpose.

I am thankful...

A Very Cold Tuesday!

It was so cold today and supposed to be even colder over the next few days...

The Pig Palace is all shored up with extra straw. The pigs have deep straw and old blankets in their houses...

We welcome formerly adopted horse, Baldwin, back to Shiloh. He returned due to personal reasons in his home- but he is very adoptable and will make someone a very nice gelding. He is an approx 12 year old Thoroughbred gelding.

Elisa began to work with him today. He is a good boy!

Ed went for a cold morning ride on his adopted horse, New York. That is Elisa's little Doxie, Clem, behind him...

Cairo soaked up some sun while dozing on his mom's breakfast...

Sausage Patti shared the Blind Girls' Equine Senior...

Elisa rode and worked with Oreo. This nice Mustang mare will be looking for her new home soon. She is moving sound and is well broke....

Elisa and Leo worked with Lobo. This is his first ride at Shiloh. He is approx 3 years old and was rescued off of the Fallon feedlot as an ungelded colt. He had a deformed hoof, but with regular good trims and some time off in our pasture, he is now moving totally sound. He is beginning his adoption evaluation. He did great for his first ride! As he is still so young, he will need an experienced home where he will be given time to mature before really beginning his under saddle work.

Ed shared a quiet moment with Aztec...

Then Aztec wandered off with Inca...

We moved Olympia into the Easy Street pasture to help her keep her weight up over the winter...
