Fred Mertz in the vet clinic!

Our big wandering draft mule, Fred Mertz is in the vet clinic. Fred is in his mid to late 30's and has ongoing health issues, although he has been doing much better the last few months. Fred gets regular Legend shots which help him get around easier and is treated with Bute or Banamine as needed. This morning, he was acting colicy and not himself, so Elisa, Tanya and Sharil trailered him into the clinic.

Dr. Ballard examined him and can't find the reason for his condition, it's most likely his advanced age and his old body slowing down. He has gas, but his intestines have slowed way down and things are not moving too well. Dr. Ballard says he has a guarded prognosis, so Fred will remain in the clinic where he will be closely watched. He has been tubed with water and oil just in case.

Getting Fred ready to load...

In the clinic's corrals...

Getting examined...

Spending some time out on the grass...

Let's all hold a good thought for old Fred through the night. Fred has had a long, and I am sure eventful life, but his time at Shiloh has been one of peaceful wandering and hanging out with his Mule herd.

We love you Fred!
