Redondo and Today...

Sad news as Senior Sanctuary Horse, Redondo, was euthanised in the vet clinic this afternoon. Redondo coliced a few moths ago, but pulled through with aggressive treatment at the clinic, but he just hasn't been himself since then. We have been watching him closely these past few months. The today, all seemed fine at breakfast, but later in the morning he was lying down in his pasture. Not rolling, but definitely showing abdomen pain. So, we loaded him up and he went into the clinic. Once there he was evaluated and it was determined that he had a small perforation somewhere in his bowel. We could not let him suffer, so the sad decision was made to have him put to sleep. There doesn't seem to be any specific cause to his problem, just old age and the slowing down of his body over time. Redondo was rescued off of the Fallon feedlot in late 2007 and he spent his days at Shiloh out in pasture with other seniors. He was given all the food he wanted, a warm blanket in the winter, love and care. We hate to say good bye to our old guys, but we know his last bit of his life was spent in comfort. Rest in peace, Dondo.

Rescue goes on though...

Both Cognac (who is recovered from her bout with gas colic) and Providence, our horse with the trach, came home from the clinic today. Both are glad to be back with their buddies and we are happy to see them again.

Elisa and Tanya worked with lots of horses today. I took some great photos and videos- but my broken down camera won't transfer it to my computer! I was hoping it would work just a bit longer- but it's no use. I should get my new camera tomorrow and will take lots of videos and photos once I get it.

Cocktail, Calamity, Truce and Harmony were worked and ridden. Everyone looked good and I will be working on the adoption videos next week.

Some exciting news- it looks like we will have a New Arrival toward the end of this month. Meet Aztec- a 5-6 month old Alpaca. He is currently at the NSPCA, where he is being treated for a badly broken leg. He fell off of an overloaded truck carrying 50 Alpacas on it and broke his leg- somehow he was squeezed off, I have no idea what kind of truck he was on. The driver turned the baby over to someone who was told to dispose of him- but the person took pity on the baby and turned him over to the NSPCA. His leg was fixed surgically with plates and screws by the NSPCA and the Vet Referral Service of Las Vegas. It looks like once his leg is healed enough for him to leave, he will move out to Shiloh where he will join our Llama, Inca, and spend his days wandering the rescue! We have been wanting to find another Llama or Alpaca to join Inca- it looks like Aztec will be perfect...

Look at that face!

We wouldn't have even known about little Aztec if it weren't for Eric, he heard about it on the local news...

Thank you Eric!!! :0)

I am sure Aztec will thank you in person when he sees you!
