Monday at Shiloh

We arrived today to find "Lake Shiloh" in the middle of the round pen. A pipe was broken during the night (our money is on the Burros) and it flooded. It's always something!

Inca checks out the flood...

CHIEF UPDATE: We have been worried about Chief, but as always, just when we begin to talk about euthanising him, he rallies! Yesterday he was up all day and this morning, although he was down when we arrived, he got up on his own. We are working on relieving abscesses in his left hind foot. After working on him, we decided to take him out for a short walk to get him out into the sun. As soon as we put his halter on and opened the gate, he walked (very slowly) outside. It is hard for him and he does almost topple over at times, but with support, he wanted to go, so we let him. He spent a long time just looking around and his friends all came by for a visit. His spirits were great and we all felt better...

Charlie was so happy to see him!

He chewed on him and Chief chewed back...

Charlie was so happy!

He just wouldn't leave Chief alone.

He wanted to walk Chief...

It was so cute!

"Come on Chief, let's go!"

Afterwards, Charlie took a nap outside of the ICU unit. Chief also took a nap. (That's Trigger in the background.)

Chief does seem to embody the spirit of Shiloh, and all his friends- both two and four legged, seem to realize that... We all sigh a sigh of relief when the news of his health is good. With grateful tears I thank you, Chief, for being such a valient warrior. I've always thought that in years gone by you would have been the horse that the Indian Chief would have ridden- your head is always held high, with pride and dignity. Thank you for being a role model we all can try to aspire to in these times... All our best- Kelly & Dean Byrd
