Good news- it looks like Cleveland had a very deep hoof abscess that presented in a weird way. Normally, we are good at spotting abscesses, we live in the dry desert and unfortunately it is something that we have to deal with. But Cleveland seemed so sore throughout his whole leg and he's such an old tough guy that we were worried.
The vet shot a few x-rays to be sure and most of the leg swelling had gone down after his leg was wrapped for the almost two hour journey to the vet.
So, this is good news- abscesses, although extremely painful, can be treated so Cleveland will return home tomorrow.
