A Hot Thursday

It was very hot at the rescue today, up into the low 90's.

This is a good time to remind horse owners out there- please make sure your horse has access to adequate shelter. It's just too hot to have horses, or any animals, standing around without any way to get out of the hot sun. I know we all drive by and see horses standing in the sun, or know someone who has horses without shelter. These owners are always the same people who say it's too hot to go outside and instead sit on the shady porch or hang out in the air conditioned house while their animals suffer in the Summer heat. If you see a horse without access to adequate shelter, please call the local Animal Control (and follow up on it)... There is just no excuse for having horses without shelter!

Okay, off the Soap Box for now- here are some photos of today's action:

Locksley says Howdy!

He enjoyed his second day of life, nursing, napping and exploring. He did have to get an enema today, something we usually do with the newborns to make sure things keep on moving like they should, he did not enjoy the process but he stood like a good little guy...

Not to be outdone by Locksley- Battle Born showed off his speed. Try that Locksley!

Sandi groomed Taco...

Tioga and Image in their specially extra shaded summer homes...

Lindsey Loham snored through the morning- But, what's new?

Sally and Melvyn, who is wearing a fly sheet to protect a cut we are treating on him...

We moved New Arrival, Peace Pipe, into the Medical Area where we can keep a closer eye on him. He is so thin, depressed and still very sore from his castration (which we suspect was a home done castration)...

Tanya and the Brat Pack...

Sandi and the Brat Pack...

We opened up and combined the Annex pen and the VC pen- now all the blind horses- Keller, Idaho, GG, Navajo and White Cloud are in together. They seem happy with the change...

Dodge out in the Big Pasture...

We treated Little Dude with some oil and water today- he had two really bad colics last year in the heat. We are trying to prevent that from happening again with some preventative care. We use a big syringe and squirt it down, which he hates of course. But, most horses will eat a bran mash with Mineral Oil- Dude won't, so we have to do it the hard way...

New York...

I found a new feeder for Breakfast Club member, Aztec- the bird feeder! It works perfectly!

Pregnant Breeze wandered the turn out. She is looking so much better and has gained a lot of weight...

Sanctuary Horse, Shawnie, in Okay Corral.
