Weds and Thursday...

Weds was a beautiful warm day but Thursday was horrible with 50-60 mile per hour cold winds. Because Weds was so warm, I decided that it was time to finally remove the older horses' winter blankets for good- but Thursday we had to scramble to get them back on in the howling wind and suddenly freezing temps. But, I am hoping that they can be removed again by the weekend and maybe just be put onto the Gummies at night. Nevada has such extremes of weather- one day in the mid 70's and 24 hours later it is back to winter...

All is currently good with the horses at Shiloh. But on Tuesday, we had to have one of our older Sanctuary horses euthanized. Starbuck, who waaround least 30 years of age and who had been with us for the past 5 years, had been down in her pasture on Saturday morning. At first thought that she was going to naturally pass on at that time, so we sat with her and comforted her- but after awhile we decided we had to use the Ed Sled and get her into the trailer and into the clinic. Once we began to get the sled ready she suddenly rallied and with our help was able to get up to her feet. But, once up, she was having major neurological problems and was walking and standing very crooked. But, she began to try to eat her morning hay, so we decided to put her into the barn and give her supportive care and watch her closely. She spent the weekend in the barn stall and it's outdoor run and seemed to be doing okay- eating well, watching the daily activity, etc. But, on Monday morning she began having a neurological issue with one of her front legs and we knew that it was time to let her go. The vet came out and the decision was made to put her down. We think she possibly had had a stroke on Saturday morning. She passed very quickly and peacefully...

Some good news as Florecita's mom, Mamacita, is now an official part of the Shiloh Family. As Florecita is now weaned, her mom was was scheduled to return to her owner on Tuesday- but thanks to the commitment and negotiating skills of Donna- she will be staying at Shiloh! Great job, Donna!

We are still working on getting Internet service out at our ranch houses- so for now I am using a Blogger ap on my iPhone. I cannot seem to put captions under the photos. I am trying to figure it out but for now at least I can get photos posted for all of our blog readers. So enjoy the photos of the past two days!
