Back at the Ranch...

Sally and I are back from our trip. We missed the animals so much and it's nice to be back...

First off, happy news as Lobo was adopted to a new home on Friday. It was a good match and he headed out to his new life and future.

Sad news as one of old residents, Cherokee, had to be euthanised in the clinic on Thursday. Cherokee was very old and his age had caught up with him, making it hard for him to keep his weight up and slowing him down. He seemed to rally a bit a few weeks ago and it looked to me like he was finally gaining a bit of weight and his spirit was always strong but Tuesday night he went down in his pasture (Little Vacation Village) and he would not get back up. He continued to eat and drink, but just would not even try to get up, even with six strong people lifting him. He was flipped from side to side to prevent sores and stiffness and he was propped up with hay bales for support. But, he was telling us it was his time, so after trying all of Weds and Thursday morning to will him to get up, we finally gave in. We carried him into the trailer on a blanket and taken into the clinic. Cherokee was euthanised in the trailer and brought back to Shiloh where he is buried. He lived a good horse life with us all of these years, always surrounded by his herdmates and all the food he could eat. Rest in Peace, Cherokee. You can visit his Greener Pastures page here.

Fiesta hung out in the shade of the ICU stall. It was a beautiful day, it is really warming up though!

Moztec under City Center...

Sheriff is now moved into our larger Medical Unit pen, he has gained lots of weight but is still walking crooked. He will be checked during next week's vet day at Shiloh. We moved Trucker into the bigger Bungalow pen so he had some more room, he is still on stall rest but he is a young guy and needs to have some room to play. So, Sheriff was moved here where he will always be in the center of the activity on City Center.

Sabine working with Slash. This is such a neat gelding- he just needs more time to get over some of his anxieties under saddle but he is really coming along. He is such a sweet guy, not a mean bone in his body and once he is ready, he should make someone a very nice riding horse.

Slash enjoyed a nice roll in the sand after his work...

Lark and Aiken out in Big Pasture, our Mesquites are now in full bloom and looking beautiful!

Sabine also worked with Eden who will be looking for a new home very soon. This is a very gentle mare and would make an excellent kid's or first horse for a family.

Some Beautiful Old Doors in Venice

Just some photos of some old doors that I saw walking around Venice. For some reason, the doors amazed me- most of the doors you see are ancient and small, full of charactor and just plain beautiful.

Traveler Visits the Ca 'd'Oro in Venice

I visited the beautiful Ca 'd'Oro, one of the most well known palazzos on the Grand Canal. "Ca" means house, in this home's case the "Golden House". It was built in 1440 and it's facade was originally gilded.



The view from the first Loggia, or portico.


That is the big fish market to the left. This home was right in the middle of the daily activity of the Venetians.

Owners of these splendid houses lining the Grand Canal constantly competed against each other, each one making their houses as beautiful as their fortunes could afford. With it's shiny golden exterior, the Ca 'd'Oro was one of the most noticable...


A beautiful wooden staircase. Whenever I see something like this, I always imagine the people who have touched it throughout history. Each person had a life, dreams and hopes- it reminds me to always show respect for the historic places that I visit during my travels...


A well worn carved lion figure on the staircase. It is worn smooth from countless hands...
