Traveler Visits Strolling Jim

Today I visited the Historic town of Wartrace, Tennessee. Wartrace was named for the Native American war path, or trail, that ran through the area.

In 1813, Andrew Jackson was said to have carved "this is an Indian war path" in a tree in what is now the town...

Wartrace is the home of the Historic Walking Horse Motel.

The hotel was home to a Tennessee Walking Horse, Strolling Jim. Jim starting out pulling farm equipment but it was soon discovered that he had a wonderful gait and he eventually became the World's first champion Walking Horse.

Strolling Jim is buried out behind the hotel...

This is his pasture where he lived out the remainder of his days after his showing days were over...

I paused at his grave to pay my respects to this special horse.
