Weds at the Rescue...

A hot and muggy day (well, at least muggy for Vegas!)...

Moose the Mule is now out wandering and has teamed up with Ethel, another wandering Mule. They enjoy their days exploring the rescue and standing in the barn aisle...

This is Icey Litla in Mesquite Manor. She is in with the three other older Iceys...

Elisa and Kenzo do some work...

A view from by the Saloon area. That's the Hospice on the left and the arenas on the right...

The Three Amigos- Latigo, Charlie and Cortez...

Here is Intrepid enjoying some feed. He has returned from his foster home and he looks great! But, he is quite dirty from rolling in the puffy dirt (a type of ground we have in the desert)!

The Hospice. It's not really a "Hospice" area- these horses are not sick, in fact most are being worked daily for adoption to new homes. The name just stuck...

Daisy and Yeager- a meeting of sizes...
In Little Vacation Village, little Paso Fino, Rubix gives me a wary eye...
Then he is off- "no way- no wormer for me!"

In the Hospice, Slider's cute face. He is still gaining weight and is starting to feel good. Once he is back to health, he will begin his work...

Slider and Peace Pipe in the Hospice...

A Great Blog to Keep an Eye On!

As I had mentioned in an earlier post, Sally and I will be going to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington this weekend to watch the Three Day Eventing portion of the World Equestrian Games (WEG).

Here is a great blog by world renowned Event rider, Jimmy Wofford about his WEG experiences.

I love the incredibly touching Native American quote at the end of his post...

A Very Hot Tuesday...

Today really was very hot- we were all dripping sweat. I didn't get too many pictures today- we were just so busy and so hot!

Thank you to the EQUUS Foundation for our recent grant for pasture fencing. We received $4,000.00 toward new fencing. Thank you EQUUS!

Elisa gives Kenzo a break from the lunge line and shows him her iPod earpiece...

Yeager over a gymnastic grid...

Elisa and Sage showing good form over a vertical. Good job guys!

Wanderer Cowboy hung out by the Hospice- he still loves fellow Appy, Checkers...

Wanderer Baja near the Barn...

Of course, Scrappy is not far away!

Charlie just cannot stay out of our tack room...

A Quiet Monday...

A quiet day- no big issues, all the horses are doing great.

Over on City Center, Broadway was bathed while Sandi brought out Laramie from the Medical Unit...
Sandi worked on Laramie in the cool shade...

Even Yeager enjoyed the shade after his morning work...

Elisa rode Broadway, who is really coming along under saddle.

To keep Broadway interested, we have begun to work with her over some fences. This is her first time over a just some poles, but she was quiet and calm and seemed to enjoy it.

The dust was flying over in Assisted Living during the breakfast feeding- here old crippled up Wampum kicks up his heels!

So does Higgins- behind Sally's back!

Melvyn shows his funny side over in the Gummies...

Then just settles down to look cute as he shares his Feed Fairy food with Vista...

Seemore is now also in the Gummies. Look at that old sway back!

Sunny is doing well and enjoying her new life with her Gummie pals...

In the Barn, Gomez's stall sign says it all, "Super Gummy"! He is feeling better now and hopefully will be able to move back out with his friends...

Just Some Nice Photos

Thanks to Dave who took these great peaceful pasture shots early this morning...

Saturday's Work...

A busy day as always.

Good news as Cedar is being adopted! She will be leaving for her new home sometime next week. Great news for Cedar and her new owner.

Here is Cleveland, the horse who went into the clinic last week with an extremely sore leg and foot. At first, the vets thought it was just a deep abscess, but once the pain meds wore off, the intense pain returned and they had to look even deeper. It appears that he has a pocket of infection way up near his coffin bone. Cleveland has always have hooves that abscess from time to time since he was rescued. But, they have always been able to be resolved. This time, it is much deeper and bigger. So we have to do very careful hoof care on him every other day with antibiotics and keep it as sterile as we can...

After his foot care, he spent some time out in the warm sun in his outdoor pen. He is being housed in the Barn while he is being treated.

I rode my new guy, Yeager. I am working on getting back into jumping and Yeager is a blast to ride! I have had lots of people ask- no Yeager is not a rescue. I purchased him as I was looking for something specific. I haven't seriously ridden or jumped in 15 years, so I need something that can get me going. Once I get back into the swing of things, then I will be working with some of the rescues to get them jumping and showing as well. If I could have found a rescue horse who fit what I was looking for- then of course, I would have rescued it. I am planning to begin competing in Combined Training in Spring of 2011. Shiloh rider, Elisa is also planning to compete as well so we are getting organized. Yeager is an Oldenburg and I will be competing in Combined Training.

Sally and I will also be traveling to Lexington, Kentucky next weekend to watch the Eventing portion of the World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park. We are so excited and can't wait to go!

Bacon Bits and Jimmy Dean enjoyed a nice siesta after the morning's Breakfast Club...

We have moved Laramie into the Medical Unit area. We are treating his heart failure with Lasix. He is actually happy and eating well, but his old body is failing. We are spending time with him and letting him know how loved he is.

Over in the VC pen, White Cloud and Keller have teamed up...

Sabine worked with Oreo. She is doing very well and we will begin her adoption evaluation again this coming week.

Thursday...

Lots to do today!
Sally slowly got to work- "Move it Sally- get going on that wound care!" You can see how hard I make my mom work. (Actually- someone donated crutches to us and Sally was fooling around.) I really don't make her work that hard... I promise...

Elisa rode Willie Nelson, who is super cute under saddle. He has good manners and is fun to ride. We are working on an adoption video...

Over in Easy Street, old sway backed Shamrock took a drink...

Sundance and Celebrate...

Frisco and his girl friend, OTTB Cognac...

Cognac is ready to come in and start her under saddle work...

Icey, Isungur.

Elisa also rode new arrival, Flicker. Flicker is fun to ride with good manners. We will continue to work with her and will be making an adoption video of her as well. She is sound and healthy, a nice little mare...

Then it was Resolute's turn for some work. Elisa lunged him...

Then I gave Elisa a jumping lesson on Sally's pony, Sage...

They did great and had a lot of fun!

Meanwhile, Felipe trimmed Wanderer Concho's hooves...
