Thursday

This was just one of those days...

Sadler sliced his head on something this morning, it was a clean slice, but his skull was showing through the cut. Because we are so far away from the vet, Shiloh does alot of the minor vet care for the horses. We cleaned and flushed the wound and then stapled it back up. He should make a great recovery.

The slice!

We sedated him and he was feeling good! Look at those lips...

Jill's staple job, it might not be pretty, but it gets the job done.

The rest of the day was pretty usual, feeding, checking, and caring for all the horses.

But, later in the afternnon, something sad happened. Goodness, an older mare off of the Fallon feedlot who has been with Shiloh for the past year and a half, was being walked through her pasture to have her feet trimmed. She was being led by Shiloh's farrier, when suddenly, she jumped up, reared up, and fell over backwards. She passed away about 30 seconds later. It looked like a huge heart attack. Thankfully, no person was hurt. As sad as we are to see her pass on, we are happy that she died naturally and really did not suffer. She lived a wonderful horse life at Shiloh in the Area 51 pasture with her friends.
Just yesterday, Jill took these two photos of her in the pasture...

Rest in Peace, Goodness.

Sally, Jill, and Traveler are off to San Francisco in the morning. Watch for Traveler's Blogs!

SO sorry to hear about Goodness and Sadler. At least Goodness had good care and was loved the last year and a half. I bet the whole experience rattled your farrier a bit... I would love to meet the person who is brave enough to do all those horses out there :)

So sorry to hear about Goodness. What a horrible day- losing a truly sweet girl like her must be so heartbreaking. Then having Sadler with a big gash. Truly impressed that you are able to staple cuts yourself! We'll check on him on Sunday. Be safe on your trip- Kelly Byrd PS- Sadler's lips sure were funny looking- all saggy!

Jill is amazing!! what a fabulous doctor job. I think the staples look great. Tony is LUCKY to have you, capable, smart, not squeamish. Jill, if you didnt have shiloh (and tony) i think you would do well on Survivor!
