New York- Day Two

An early morning, we had a full schedule ahead of us.

It was so early that the streets were empty...

I gave the driver directions to our first stop, The Today Show...

I watched Tony talk to Matt Lauer.

Here is Tony with his mom when he was little. What a cute little sailor suit Tony!

Next stop, Access Hollywood.

Getting ready for the interview...

After that, on to The View! Tony talked with all the girls before the show. Here he is with Whoopi!

It was a full audience...

Even "The Big Boss" made an appearance!

After our work was done, Tony showed us where he grew up in the city.

Tony and his family lived in this tenement building for a while. On the second floor right above the red awning.
Tony and his younger brother, Julius, lived in this building, when it used as an orphanage. His parents could not afford to take care of the boys, so they were placed here for a period of time.

Later, we shopped the streets. The girls bought me this great t-shirt.

Here the girls are embarrassing me again, as usual...

I tried to get them arrested by one of the city's finest, but he wouldn't do it. Maybe next time...

Then it was back to the hotel for a good dinner and, finally, a full night's sleep. Tomorrow it's more interviews. Watch for us on "Fox and Friends" on Fox News.

Meanwhile back at Shiloh:

All is good, everyone is fine. Elisa, AKA Officer Jim Dangle, is trying to keep everyone in line. Good Luck with that!

Some good news: Former Shiloh Horse, Wichita and her owner Erin, placed third in their first Hunter Jumper Show. They rode both on the flat and over fences. Great job guys, all of us at Shiloh are proud of you!

New York- Day One 10/14/08

Tony's Book Tour has begun! Of course, the girls brought me along to help out.

Flying our way to New York from Las Vegas...
What will we do on this trip? I wonder...
First stop this morning, my girls brought me to a place called Ground Zero. We went into a museum, my girls did not take any pictures inside. But they did cry. I did too...
They said it was an important and special place, somewhere all Americans should come to see at some point. My girls told me we should never forget what happened here.
It was a big empty place. But new buildings are slowly being built.

Then, it was off to Chinatown! My girls decided to look for purses- very special purses.
Boy, did they find them! But,why were we taken into secret rooms with false doors? And why were the purses in black trashbags? I'll say one thing, it sure was exciting!
Later in the evening, we went to Barnes and Noble Book Store in Lincoln Center for a book signing.
I didn't sign any, but Tony did. He signed over 350 books in two hours. There were really long lines and tons of people.
Am I mentioned in the book?
What does it say about me?

My old friend, Larry Storch, wept with joy when he saw me. Or was he actually holding his nose because I smelled? After all, it's been months since Sally dropped me in the horse pee at Whitehall Castle in London and I've had many baths since then...

Look at this crowd! There is Tony up front with the cowboy hat on! Hey Tony, back here!
We even signed autographs when we got back to the hotel. It's exhausting being famous...

Tomorrow, Tony will be on The View and The Today Show! Stay tuned!

Saturday 10/11/08

Jill and Sally are leaving town tomorrow to go on a book tour with Tony's new autobiography, The American Prince. We are off to New York, London, and Ireland. Tony will be on The View and The Today Show next week, we will be posting more info about what day, etc. Tony's book is all about growing up in New York City and his life in Movies over the past 60 years. Of course, Shiloh is mentioned!

Be sure to watch for Traveler's upcoming adventures on the tour with Tony. You just never know where Traveler is going to end up...

Our band of hardworking, dedicated, and knowledgeable volunteers will be keeping everything running smoothly at the rescue while we are gone. But, we will sure miss all the horses...

Well, Winter is officially arriving! It was very cold and windy on Saturday. Soon it will be time for us to start hauling out the blankets for the horses. That is always a HUGE job, as many of the Shiloh Horses wear blankets in the cold months. All of the older guys, especially the Gummies, all of the special needs and crippled horses, and many of the Thoroughbred's who just don't get very thick hair. In the midst of winter, it does get down into the mid teens at night at Shiloh...

Some turn out fun...

In the morning, Christian Bail left with his new family, as did Frost. It's bittersweet to see the horses move on, but we are always happy that they have owners of their own now. A loving family and home of their own beats living at a rescue any day...
Sally, all bundled up, feeding the VC Pen. VC stands for Visually Challenged- GG, Idaho, and Keller are all blind. They have become fast friends.

We unwrapped Arson's foot and flushed, cleaned and medicated his hoof. It's looking good, staying clean, but it is a complicated and difficult process to do every 2-3 days. We (Sally and Jill) decided that it would be easiest for everyone of we took Arson back into the clinic to be treated while we are out of town for the next two weeks. There is enough other work to do while we are gone to have to worry about his exposed bone and keeping it sterile.

Jill re wraps Arson's foot...

As volunteers and visitors were arriving to handle the chores, Jill, Sally, Sharil, and Arson headed out to the vet to attend their open house. We met up with many Shiloh people at the Open House, The Hickeys, Kelly, and Daria among others. Many Shiloh adopters were also there, it so nice to see everyone again and to get filled in on how their Shiloh Horses are doing.

We set up a table and offered our handbeaded horseshoes and t-shirts for donations- we raised $445.00for the rescue horses. We also handed out brochures and information about Shiloh. Big thanks to Desert Pines for allowing us to have a table!

The vets gave wonderful talks about Colic, Podiatry, Reproduction, Endoscopy- we all learned alot. There were tons of people there, and although we were all freezing in the wind, everyone had a wonderful time!

A fun day

Don't forget: Tomorrow is Shiloh's vet, Desert Pine's Open House. Some of us will be attending and we will be selling beaded horseshoes and t-shirts. Hope to see some of you there!

Today was a great day! We all had a good time working together. It was warm, but the wind and dust did kick up again around 1pm.

Of course, it was not all smooth sailing. Suki drank Jill's Pumpkin Spice Latte that Sharil had bought her at Starbucks. We had all gotten out of the truck at the feedstore early in the morning, with Jill dreaming of enjoying the latte on the drive to Shiloh. But, it was not to be, instead, Suki enjoyed it.

But, to make up for it, Jill, Sally and Sharil went on a trail ride. (Suki was locked in the barn stall at the time!) Jill rode Tanis, Sally rode her horse, Sage, and Sharil rode Borrego. It was a beautiful day and we had a great ride. Spur, Curry, and Breezer went along with us.

Checking out the back of Shiloh from outside the fence.

Back at Shiloh, Sandi cleaned up Pioneer and did all the wound care.
Elisa hopped on NASDAQ for the first time since he arrived at Shiloh. NASDAQ was right off of the racetrack and needed alot of rehab time, as he was stressed from his life on the racetrack and was suffering from stomach ulcers. His attitude has really made a positive change and he was great under saddle.
Six, another young TB, was also ridden for the first time. He was very thin at the time of his rescue and also needed time off to forget the days on the racetrack. He is very willing and a nice big gelding.

Karin from EQUUS SPA treated NASDAQ to a spa treatment. EQUUS SPA is offering a great deal to spoil some of the Shiloh Horses. Please click here to find out how your favorite horse can get a spa session!

A dusty day...

What started as a beautiful day turned into a windy dusty one! at times, we could not see anything!

It's really hard to do anything on days like this! But we were able to get alot done before the wind kicked up. Wounds, feeding, horses worked, medications given...

Showbiz, the young filly born at Shiloh to feedlot mare, Norma Jean, returned to Shiloh today due to changes in her adoptive home. She was very well cared for and has great manners. This is a very nice big filly, she is already well over 15 hands at about 15 months of age. She'll eventually be looking for her new home...

Inca...

Poor Belmont and his crippled leg. You would really never know it though, he actually rules the Big Vacation Village pasture and will canter around with his friends. He is living a quality horse life, all we can ask for and give him.

Here is something to make us all smile. Sweet old Christian Bail, who was rescued from a Fallon slaughter auction a few months ago, is being adopted by a wonderful family from Elko, NV! It was the right home and family for Christian, he wasn't even looking for a new home, but it came along anyway. He will be loved and spoiled by two little girls in his new family, looks like a perfect match.

A gentle old guy who still has a life of love ahead of him... He will leave with his family on Saturday.

Two Busy Days!

TUESDAY:

Yesterday was a short vet day at Shiloh. Dr. DorenKamp from Desert Pines was out to work on the horses.

We had Harlow, the Haflinger mare, checked for pregnancy- she IS NOT pregnant. Although she was certified by a PA vet back in January, it's possible she lost the baby and her body reabsorbed it before she was ever sent to the auction. Sad news, but for the best. There are way too many horses out there already.

Harlow is checked...

Moonshine had his Harbonema (Summer Sore) on his sheath cut away. All of the granulated tissue was removed. It looks better already. Poor guy!

That has got to hurt!

Sunday had a Magic Shoe put back on his left hind. His leg was still too low, almost walking on his cornet band. He is walking much better and looks great. He will wear it for another 2-3 weeks. He was excellent for the farrier and vet.

The vet checks his eye, It is healing well, but he scraped it a little bit to encourage healing.

Sunday is laid down, he's so good, he just lays still as he is worked on.

His new shoe! Look how straight his leg is now...

WEDNESDAY:

The Sun City Anthem Pet Club visited the rescue today. Everyone handed out carrots and got a tour of the ranch and the rescue horses. Thanks to the Pet Club for coming!

Handing out carrots...

Sunday was one of the star attractions, as usual!

Canyon gets some extra attention from a Pet Club member.

Shiloh Volunteer, Liz groomed some of the Gummies, here she works on sweet old Priceless.

Daisy hanging out and eating breakfast with Maverick and Echo Echo in Mesquite Manor...

This last picture is a bit disturbing- it's Oscar Meyer doing something "bad" to a straw bale. I just had to post it!
