Arson is home at Shiloh!
First of all- THANK YOU to all the support we got for Arson's vet bill. It was a HUGE help!
And now the good news- Arson came home from the vet clinic today! He was ready to come home and we are happy he is back. Arson was a favorite of the vet techs, he would always whinny at them when they came to work on him...
His wrapped foot.
The missing hoof wall. The white area is where his coffin bone is- but the white coloring is medication that was packed in the area.
The bottom of his hoof with the Z-Bar shoe, which supports his hoof.
Dr. Ballard replaces the hospital plate. It screws onto the bottom of his shoe to help keep the area sterile...
The vet techs say goodbye to Arsie!

We have to keep his hoof very, very clean. It must stay wrapped with the wrapping changed and the area flushed out every 2-3 days. We have made up a bedded stall for him in the barn...

Arson checks out his stall back home at Shiloh. He also will need to wear standing wraps to keep his legs from stocking up with fluid. He is able to be turned out daily in the small round pen which is great for him.

Pahrump Girl Scouts Visit Shiloh! 10/4/08
Four troops of Girl Scouts from Pahrump, NV came out to Shiloh this morning.
Eric and "Sawyer"
There were approx 40 girls and some parents, so it was quite a crowd! Everyone took a tour of the rescue and the horses and then groomed Assisted Living and the Gummie horses. Everyone had a great time, the older horses especially loved the extra attention and carrots!
Some more great news as both Frost and Sammy are adopted! Frost is going home with Janice and her family, where he will join their other Arabian gelding. Sammy was adopted by Shiloh supporters, Eric and his mom, Libby! Sammy, now renamed Sawyer (great name) will be boarded at Shiloh along with Eric's Mustang, Gus. Great homes for these two very friendly geldings. Yay!

Friday
A much cooler day today, in fact it was actually a little bit cold this morning!
The old guys in the newly enlarged Assisted Living pasture are doing great, everyone is getting along and seems happy. We had also made a "Visually Challenged" corral where we moved Keller, Good Grief, and Idaho. All three are basically blind as bats- but they seem to get along great! They all eat together and seem secure and comfortable with their new corral mates.
Oscar Meyer has a nice pig water bath...After working at the rescue, we (Jill, Sally, and Sharil) met Robin and Audrey in town. We all met to take the 2009 calendar into the printer. It's going to be a wonderful calendar, full of rescue horses and info. Hopefully we will get the first copies in a few weeks.
After much long discussion, Jill and Sally have finally come to terms with the fact that we cannot do it all! After working at the rescue seven days a week, 365 days a year- we are so tired and frazzled that we don't have much energy left over for anything else! So we are going to be creating a Event Planning and Marketing board. Robin and Audrey have some really wonderful ideas and plans and with their help and guidance we are going to work on kicking Shiloh up a notch. We have some great ideas for a big event for early next year. In the next few days, I will be posting more info about who to contact if you would like to help us on the fundraising and marketing end of things. There are so many interested people who have approached us about how they can help- now we are ready!
I have to say, it really is hard to let go of some of the control of our vision and dream, after all Sally and I started Shiloh with one horse- but Shiloh has grown so much over the last few years that it's time we bring in more expertise from the many supporters out there. After all, there are so many wonderful people out there who want to help the horses...

Weds 10/1/08
My camera broke today, so no pics or videos! Sorry. I will get a new one either today or tomorrow.
We brought Eureka back to Shiloh today, he could not wait to get into the trailer. Once he got out at the rescue, all he wanted to do was to go back into Assisted Living with his friends. He was passing lots of oil, so things are moving great. He seemed fine today, so we will have to wait for the bloodwork to be returned from the lab.
Sunday had his Magic Shoes removed by Tray. He laid quietly for the whole procedure, he's so sweet. We are still a bit concerned about his left hind leg. We will haveit checked by the vet next week, he may need to have his shoes put back on again for a while.
We have SO MANY older horses now, all our mid 20's are now late 20's and 30's. So we enlarged Assisted Living today to add more horses. We also enlarged the Gummie Pen. We are now feeding an incredible 14 bags of Equine Senior PER DAY! Behind hay, it is our biggest expense. But, Shiloh always saves some of the older guys at the auctions, after all they have done in their lives, they deserve care and love in their old age. Many of the older guys have to have the senior feed to keep their weight on...
I wanted to thank those of you who have chosen Shiloh as your charity for the MGM Mirage Voice Foundation. Last month Shiloh received a check for over $400.00. I just got another check for $178.00. All this money goes to feeding the horses. Any of you who work for the MGM Mirage company, you can choose Shiloh as your charity. It's a wonderful program and the horses thank you all for the support! Of course, we are thankful for everyone's support!
Arson is doing well, still in the clinic. We are hoping by the end of the week that he can come home, but we cannot rush it. The vets are still keeping him in as sterile as an enviroment as they can to fight the infection.
