The Vet Testing horses returned to Shiloh. All of them look great, but as Hoops was being unloaded from the trailer, she whammed her head on the door latch and incredibly (and pretty grossly) punched a hole in her forehead that goes through to her sinus cavity. We could see right in there and now we know what horses look like on the inside! :o)
Anyway, she was promptly loaded back up and taken to the clinic where she got some stitches and will remain for a few days to get her sinus flushed out. The fun never ends!
We also stuck little Domingo into the trailer as he was acting colicy yesterday and this morning. After the vet's examined him, they think it's possible that he might have eaten something that he shouldn't have, like possibly hair. With all of the shedding going on around him, who knows? The vets said that minis are notorious for eating weird things and they just had to do surgery on one that had a huge hair ball! So for now, he is on IV fluids to try to help him pass the blockage. There is some talk that he might need surgery, but the cost is just too high and if it comes to that, we will have to make some hard decisions. Just when you think things are going so well...
Echo Echo and his new best friend, Stormy, returned to the Area 51 pasture from the vet testing. They were racing around greeting all the other horses.
Some young visitors handed out some treats...
We moved horses out of the Cuckoo's Nest Pasture to make a new extra feeding pasture. Our newest pasture just did not have enough shade yet and we just can't have horses with inadequate shade in the coming summer months. We do have a grant in for some shelters, so let's all keep our fingers crossed...
The horses were all excited by the move. There was lots of galloping going on!
Blahnik joined the new herd...
After racing around, everyone settled down and took a good look around their new home. Here is (from left to right) Cherokee, Olympia, Broadway, Ciento, and Lovely.
Jimmy Dean cooled off in some mud...
Here is Levi trying to keep Latigo away from his herd which is made up of Baja, Scrappy and Eagle. Levi guards them all and keeps a close eye on any other Wanderer that might come too close. Today Latigo tried to get into the herd in on of our hay areas (which is open awaiting our new hay load which arrived this afternoon).
