A Quiet and Peaceful Friday

A beautiful morning with clear and cool skies, the desert winds kicked up later in the day.

All quiet with the horses, thankfully, no emergencies.

My Back Surgery Update

I have had a few people ask me for an update on my back.

It has been ten months since I had the surgery and my back has healed unbelievably well. I just went to see my surgeon today and he said it has totally fused around the screws and plates and is now stable. He told me that basically my back had been broken into two pieces (from 30+ years of riding), its amazing that I was able to function as well as I did for all those years and then get back into competitive riding after 16 years.

Anyway, he cleared me for riding and I will be back in the saddle as soon as Jedermann returns from CA in a few weeks! I am really excited!

My x-ray from today.

Front view.

I know that many people's back surgery do not turn out very well, but I was lucky and am extremely happy that I went through with it!

Starsky is up for Adoption

Starsky recently returned to Shiloh due to changes in his adoptive home. He is a sound and healthy 12 year TB gelding who is sound and sane. A nice big handsome gelding.

Weds Morning at Shiloh

A beautiful clear blue sky over the ranch this morning. Still lots of mud from the recent rains but the rain washed the dust off of everything so we aren't complaining!

BLT...

Trigger, on the left, finally decided to leave Okay Corral yesterday morning at feeding time. He wandered into the pasture a few weeks ago and didn't want to leave. So we left him in and figured he would decide when he was ready to go back to wandering- looks like yesterday was the day!

Fixing up the Pig Palace and other photos

This morning was the first day that I actually put a long sleeve shirt on- it is getting chilly out here at night.

So, today we shored up the Pig area and the pig houses to give them more protection and insulation.

We used some of the straw bales that were donated to us a few months ago...

Jimmy Dean's box in the Barn stall. Looks really cozy!

But Jimmy was a bit wary...

The Pig Palace. The pigs love to burrow under the piles of straw...

Mirage finds her way to Shiloh

Yesterday afternoon we had a call from a neighboring ranch that there was a horse wandering on the empty gravel road.

We all hopped in the truck and headed over.

There she was, just standing and waiting for someone to help her. Looks like another horse dumped out in the desert....

She is very well mannered 2-3 year old QH, shod all the way around (with front pads which leads me to suspect a lameness) and she walked very calmly into the trailer.

We searched with binoculars to see if there was another horse with her anywhere as sometimes multiple horses have been in this same area.

But, we couldn't find another one.

We have have named her Mirage and we will do all we can for her.
