Sky's Shiloh Journey Has Ended...

Sad news as Sky passed away this morning. His condition has been deteriorating over the past few weeks and was in the vet clinic last week for treatment. He was rapidly losing weight, having difficulty passing manure and hardly ate.

We have been treating him with antibiotic injections twice and day, low dose Banamine and was oiled- but he did not really respond. We have been very worried about him and this morning we knew he just had to go back into the clinic. Sally and I personally drove him the hour and a half to the clinic, but sadly, he went down in the trailer and passed away before we could get him there.

His necropsy showed massive intestinal adhesions which were causing blockages throughout his intestinal tract. He had developed Peritonitis as well and there was nothing we could have done. He was returned to Shiloh where he was buried.

Sky arrived at Shiloh in August and was well loved these past 3-4 months. He was put on a good diet, in fact for a while, he did gain some weight and fill out. He was able to live in a herd with other special needs horses and was a favorite for volunteers and staff to groom and take for walks.

His condition upon his arrival in August...
Looking a bit better...

A month later, looking better still...

Out in Assisted Living, he later moved into the Gummies..

On the grass a few days ago, bundled up against the cold...

Looking cute in his Medical Unit...

Sally worked with him everyday, he was a favorite of hers. Here she cleaned the oil off of his hind legs...

Resting...

Rest easy, sweet Sky. We loved you...

Even in his poor condition, he was still beautiful. So sorry for losing such a great heart.

Thank you for taking such good care of Sky. When I look at his photos, I can easily see what a beautiful horse he must have been in his prime. I am so glad he was so loved in the end.

Ahh, may he rest in peace now. He was looking so much better! Hugs to you all, I know it's tough to let them go. I'm letting one of my own go in less than 6 hours the vet will be here. DSLD has made it hard for her to get up. It's time, today. So I will say a prayer for both her and Sky that they meet in heaven and run free and whole again.
